Renovation storage

Builders work faster in an empty room, and your furniture survives better out of the dust. A container parked ten minutes away is cheaper than losing a sofa to plaster.

Why people come to us

The usual reasons.

A room at a time

Most renovations move around the house. A container lets you empty whichever room the builders are in this week and bring it back when they have moved on, instead of shuffling the same furniture from room to room ahead of them.

Kitchens and bathrooms

A new kitchen often arrives weeks before it can be fitted, and it cannot sit in a room that is being replastered. Flat-packed units, worktops and appliances all keep perfectly well in a dry steel container.

When you move out entirely

For a full refurbishment it is usually cheaper and far less stressful to empty the house, store it, and move back into a finished building — rather than live in two rooms for four months.

For a full refurbishment, or when the builders need every room clear at once.

Worth knowing

What we would tell a friend.

Wrap before it leaves the house

Plaster dust travels. Anything upholstered wants a cover on it before it goes in the van, not after it arrives.

Get things off the steel floor

A pallet or a couple of lengths of timber under soft furnishings. Steel can sweat in a cold snap and an inch of air stops it reaching your sofa.

Keep the tools at the front

If the container is doubling as the site store, keep what you need daily by the doors and the furniture at the back.

Leave a corridor

A clear foot down the middle to the back wall. It feels wasteful on day one and saves an hour every time you need something.

Questions we get asked

Can my builder collect from it?+

Yes, if you tell us first and give them the gate code. We cannot let someone we do not know into the yard on a phone call.

What if the work overruns?+

Most do. You are month to month, so you simply keep it — there is nothing to renegotiate.

Can I store paint and solvents?+

No. Nothing flammable: no paint, no fuel, no gas bottles. Everything else from a building job is fine.

Something not covered? Ring the yard on 020 4597 5633. Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm.

Containers free at all three yards.
