Storage for decluttering

You do not have to decide today. Move what you are unsure about out of the house, live without it for a few months, and the decision usually makes itself.

Why people come to us

The usual reasons.

Getting a house ready to sell

Estate agents ask you to depersonalise, which in practice means removing about a third of your belongings. A container for the weeks a sale takes is the straightforward way to do it, and it photographs far better than a full garage.

Reclaiming a room

A spare room that became a store, a garage you cannot park in, a loft nobody has opened in years. Move it out, get the room back, and work through it at your own pace.

Things you are not ready to lose

Children’s things, a parent’s furniture, the tools you will use again when you have time. None of it has to be thrown away to get your house back.

Which size

What you will probably need.

10ft container

A garage or a loft

£160 a month

plus 20% VAT — £192 a month

The right size for most decluttering. A single garage’s worth, roughly 60 to 80 boxes.

20ft container

Several rooms

£280 a month

plus 20% VAT — £336 a month

If you are clearing a whole house before a sale, or combining two households.

Worth knowing

What we would tell a friend.

Label the outside of every box

On two sides, not the lid. You will be looking at a wall of boxes, not down at them.

Photograph the container when you shut it

One picture from the doorway. It is the quickest way to remember what went in and roughly where.

Set a date to come back

Put it in the calendar when you move things in. Decluttering only works if there is a day when you decide.

Start with the furniture

The big pieces free the most space for the least packing. Boxes can follow at the weekend.

Questions we get asked

Can I come and go as I like?+

Yes — 24 hours a day, every day, with your own padlock and the gate code for your yard.

What is the shortest I can take it for?+

One month. After that it is month to month with a month’s notice.

Can I swap to a smaller container later?+

Yes, if one is free. People often start in a 20ft and move to a 10ft once they have worked through it.

Something not covered? Ring the yard on 020 4597 5633. Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm.

Containers free at all three yards.
