Who is responsible for your information

Just Self Storage Ltd, company number 08104095, of 1A Warspite Road, London SE18 5PG, is the data controller for the information described here.

If you have a question about your information, email info@justselfstorage.co.uk or ring 020 4597 5633 and ask for the office.

What we hold, and why

Your name, address, telephone number and email

To raise invoices, to reach you about your container, and to write to you if the account falls behind. Without it we cannot provide the storage.

A copy or note of the photo ID you showed us

To confirm you are who you say you are before we hand over a gate code. Required by our insurers and by anti-money-laundering good practice.

Your container number and the dates you held it

To run the agreement and to know who was entitled to be in the yard on a given day.

A log of gate openings at your yard

Security. If something goes missing from a yard, this is the record of when the gate was opened. The yard shares one access code, so an entry is not tied to an individual.

Invoices, payments and arrears history

Accounting and tax. We keep these for six years after the agreement ends because the law requires it.

Messages you send us through the portal, email or the website forms

To answer you, and so the next person who picks up the enquiry can see what was already said.

Enquiries you make before becoming a customer

To quote and to follow up. If you do not go ahead, we delete these after twelve months.

What we do not do

We do not sell your information, and we do not pass it to anyone for marketing.

We do not run advertising or tracking cookies on this website. The only cookie-like storage we use is a sign-in token in the customer and staff portals, which exists so you do not have to type your password on every page.

We do not use your information to make automated decisions about you.

Who else sees it

Our own staff, limited to what their role needs. Yard staff can see your name and container; they cannot see your payment history. Who can see what is recorded and reviewable.

Our accountant, for invoices and payments.

Our bank, for payments you make to us.

A debt recovery agent or solicitor, only if an account goes seriously into arrears.

The police or another authority, where we are required by law to provide it.

How long we keep it

While you are a customer, and then: accounting records for six years after the agreement ends, because HMRC requires it; gate access logs for twelve months; CCTV recordings for 31 days; enquiries that did not become bookings for twelve months.

The activity log that records what our own staff did is kept for the life of the business. It contains staff names and actions, not your personal details beyond the customer or container involved.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, and we will provide it within one month at no charge.

You can ask us to correct anything that is wrong. You can change most of it yourself in the customer portal.

You can ask us to delete your information. We will do so except where we are required to keep it — accounting records being the usual exception — and we will tell you what we have had to keep and why.

You can object to how we are using it, or ask us to restrict that use, while a dispute is sorted out.

If you are not happy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, though we would rather you came to us first.

CCTV

Each yard is covered by recorded CCTV, operating 24 hours a day, for the security of the site and the goods stored in it. Signs are displayed at every entrance.

Recordings are kept for 31 days and then overwritten. They are viewed only when there is a specific reason — a reported theft, damage, or a safety incident — and are released to the police on request.

Keeping it safe

Customer records are held in a database that is not reachable from the public internet. Staff sign in with their own account, see only what their role allows, and every change is recorded against their name.

Passwords are stored hashed, which means nobody — including us — can read them.
